The Oshawa Lady Blue Knights Field Lacrosse organization started in the Year 2000, with 60 girls playing Under 15 house league, and has continued to grow at a rapid pace over the past 6 years. The league has attracted girls from all over Durham Region. The organization now consists of four house leagues, Baby Blue Knights(5 and 6 year olds), Jr. Blue Knights(7, 8 and 9 year olds), U15 and Open age, with almost 300 girls learning to play the game or developing their skills further, preparing them for our Rep program.
The Lady Blue Knights have a Rep team in each of the Divisions offered by the Ontario Women's Lacrosse Provincial League - U15, U19A and B, and Senior. Select teams from the House Leagues are also formed at the U11, U15 and U19 age groups. The development at the grass roots level in our House League programs has been the driving force behind the rapid progression of the Lady Blue Knights becoming one of the strongest programs in the Province.
In just 8 years of House League and 6 years of Rep, our the Lady Blue Knights boast the highest registration than any other organization in the Province. Our Rep teams have won 9 Provincial Championships, including the 2004 & 2006 Ontario Summer Games Championships. Our programs have taken pure beginners and developed them into athletes who now compete at higher levels.
Most recently we had 8 Blue Knight athletes playing for the U19 Canadian Team finishing 4th at the 2007 World Championships in Peterborough, Ontario. In 2007 we had a record high 13 Blue Knights play for the Ontario Team. These athletes all represented our Blue Knight organization with class and are great role models for our young Blue Knights to aspire to.
Many of our athletes aspire to strive for NCAA scholarships. In just 6 years of offering Rep Lacrosse, we have 9 girls who have worked their way through our program, as well as taking advantage of other programs such as Ontario Team, and are now playing NCAA/NAIA lacrosse. And one more who has recently signed for the 2008 season.
Creating opportunities for young female athletes is the focus of our organiztion. With the success of so many of our athletes who have taken advantage of these opportunities, more and more girls from Durham Region are continuing to get involved in girls field lacrosse.
Lacrosse is a great fitness sport, that offers a lot of fun and a positive sports environment. Our organization strives to provide a fun, family like atmosphere where athletes can develop their skills and meet new friends, while taking advantage of the endless opportunities that women's field lacrosse provides for female athletes.
All athletes can learn to play field lacrosse and play it well. What are you waiting for? Take advantage of these opportunities NOW, while girls field lacrosse is still a relatively small sport in comparison to others. It can help you reach your dreams! DREAM BIG!!
